First blog post, and why I value writing myself as a certified sloperator

I've been interested in getting better at writing lately and starting a blog, even and perhaps especially in an age when AI can churn out this content effortlessly. I use Claude to write up my school and work emails, pair program with me, revise my college app essays and more, but at the end of the day you can't delegate away your own thoughts, opinions, wants or self.

I hold a bunch of vibes-based and often poorly thought out ideas in my mind, and writing about them forces me to interrogate and flesh them out more. That mental friction can be really productive, and is more than just an inconvenience.1

Also, even from a purely instrumental standpoint, even if we have AGI someday, you’re not going to be able to solve problems that you can’t even define or articulate, right?

  1. You could argue this against most any application of generative AI, but I think this varies a lot based on the task and your relationship with it. The time I save asking Claude Code to write boilerplate code for me is definitely more valuable to me than the marginal amount of programming experience I’d otherwise gain.
